The Senior Unit Nurse Manager works closely with departmental management, to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care, manage staff and coordinate daily activities. Support team development and resolve operational issues, in order to achieve organizational goal by carrying out the management/leadership functions. Responsibilities/ Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Deputizes in the absence of the Departmental Manager
  2. Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  3. Promotes and adheres to MSJMC’s policies and procedures, and to all statues and regulations of all applicable governmental agencies and accrediting bodies governing the practice of nursing.
  4. Utilize the Nursing Process (assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating) to achieve the goals of the nursing department
  5. Oversee the daily workflow and staffing, within the department.
  6. Provides shift direction to (for purposes of task guidance during shift):  Staff RN I and II, Nursing Assistants, Emergency Room Technicians and any other nursing staff.
  7. , and all others that may be required to fulfill all duties and responsibilities required in this position.
  8. Consistently perform all functions described in the Assists the Departmental Nurse Manager in budgeting, preparation of employee time sheets, staffing off-duty rotations, in-service education, performance appraisals, conflict resolution
  9. and research for the department.
  10. Assists the Departmental Nurse Manager in planning, orientation and mentorship programs for new Registered Nurses.
  11. Promote and support a collaborative team approach in providing care for all types of patients.
  12. Monitor patient volumes, quality of care, and performance of staff to identify areas for improvement.
  13. Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members.
  14. Discipline and assign employees as needed, in order to preserve the quality of care delivery that is in accordance with established nursing and hospital policies and procedures. 
  15. Act in a composed and professional manner, especially under pressure.
  16. May be required to work rotating shifts and based on staff and patient care needs.
  17. Concisely and accurately complete all documents that pertain to patient care, professional practice, organizational function Position Responsibilities, and preferably, exceed them.     
  18.  Must be prepared and ready to perform patient resuscitative measures if and when necessary.

 

Qualification

  1. Must be in good health and free from infection.
  2. Skilled in providing age-appropriate patient care.
  3. Must be able to perform all essential functions of a Registered Nurse, including, but not limited to, the following: -
    1. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, co-workers, supervisor, visitors, and personnel from other departments;
    2. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
    3. Ability to perform duties which may include strenuous activity and care for all types of patients as well as the operation of appropriate patient care delivery equipment;
    4. Ability to perform proper body mechanisms, including lifting patients while avoiding injury to patients, visitors, self and co-workers;

  2. be able to sit, reach, bend, turn, twist, crawl, climb, balance, run, jump,    crouch, stoop and kneel
  3. be able to lift and carry, push, pull, and handle all reasonable and      customary objects at the level required to meet the demands of the job

  5. have near-vision acuity necessary for accurate reading gauges as well as having senses of hearing, touching and smelling.

  6. Must adhere to all Hospital and departmental standards pertaining to the duties and responsibilities of a Registered Professional Nurse.

Education

  • .BSN / Diploma in Nursing ,Certificate or BSN or MSN in Leadership/Management
  • Additional certificate in any specialized nursing area.

Reporting Structure Relevant to Position

The Senior Unit Nurse Manager will report directly to the Departmental Manager of the Unit and collaborate closely with department heads, the nursing office and other members of the healthcare team.

Working Conditions

  3. BLS/ACLS/PALS certificate
